"The Cottage. Mid Craggie".

45x33cm. Oil on board. SOLD
The happiest and saddest of places - Mid Craggie Farm near Daviot, Inverness-shire.
But never mind the narrative behind the picture; as an artist my motivations are light, forms and structures, textures, and the disposition of elements within a composition. In this work the above come together well enough I would say. I took about 10 photographs of The Cottage on this occasion. I`m sure other paintings of the scene are to follow.
There was always a cold northerly wind blowing at Mid Craggie. This scene depicts one of those days when the early Spring sunshine helped - a bit !
Most of the work in this painting was done with a stick rather than a brush.I`m determined to be more "direct" in my technique going forward and sometimes the effects I wish to achieve with paint require me to have less control over the process.
This painting has just sold at the excellent Resipole Studios, Ardnamurchan, where I have been exhibiting for a few years now.
